Revelation 9

The fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from the sky which had fallen to the earth. The key to the pit of the abyss was given to him.  He opened the pit of the abyss, and smoke went up out of the pit, like the smoke from a burning furnace. The sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke from the pit.  Then out of the smoke came locusts on the earth, and power was given to them, as the scorpions of the earth have power.  They were told that they should not hurt [treat unrighteous] the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree, but only those people who don’t have God’s seal on their foreheads.  They were given power, not to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion, when it strikes a person.  In those days people will seek death, and will in no way find it. They will desire to die, and death will flee from them.  The shapes of the locusts were like horses prepared for war.  On their heads were something like golden crowns, and their faces were like people’s faces.  They had hair like women’s hair, and their teeth were like those of lions.  They had breastplates, like breastplates of iron. The sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots, or of many horses rushing to war.  They have tails like those of scorpions, and stings. In their tails they have power to harm men for five months.  They have over them as king the angel of the abyss. His name in Hebrew is “Abaddon”, but in Greek, he has the name “Apollyon”.  [A destroyer].

The first woe is past. Behold, there are still two woes coming after this.

When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them.  Revelation 11:7  The beast that you saw was, and is not; and is about to come up out of the abyss….Revelation 17:8a

“In the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors have come to the full, a king of fierce face, and understanding dark sentences, will stand up. Daniel 8:23

…On the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate;… Daniel 9:27b

“Forces will stand on his part, and they will profane the sanctuary, even the fortress, and will take away the continual burnt offering. Then they will set up the abomination that makes desolate.  Daniel 11:31

The fifth poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom was darkened. Revelation 16:10a

Put on sackcloth and mourn, you priests! Wail, you ministers of the altar. Come, lie all night in sackcloth, you ministers of my God, for the meal offering and the drink offering are withheld from your God’s house.  Joel 1:13

“When, therefore, you see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), Matthew 24:15

“For in the day that I visit the transgressions of Israel on him, I will also visit the altars of Bethel; and the horns of the altar will be cut off, and fall to the ground.   Amos 3:14

REPENT

They were told that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree, but only those people who don’t have God’s seal on their foreheads.  Revelation 9:4

But I will remove the northern army far away from you, and will drive it into a barren and desolate land, its front into the eastern sea, and its back into the western sea; and its stench will come up, and its bad smell will rise.” Surely he has done great things.  Land, don’t be afraid. Be glad and rejoice, for Yahweh has done great things.  Don’t be afraid, you animals of the field; for the pastures of the wilderness spring up, for the tree bears its fruit. The fig tree and the vine yield their strength.   “Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in Yahweh, your God; for he gives you the former rain in just measure, and he causes the rain to come down for you, the former rain and the latter rain, as before.  The threshing floors will be full of wheat, and the vats will overflow with new wine and oil.  I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the great locust, the grasshopper, and the caterpillar, my great army, which I sent among you. Joel 2:20-25

But let justice roll on like rivers, and righteousness like a mighty stream. …..  You also carried the tent of your king and the shrine of your images, the star of your god, which you made for yourselves.  Therefore I will cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus,” says Yahweh, whose name is the God of Armies. Amos 5:24,26,27

“If I shut up the sky so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;  if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.  2 Chronicles 7:13,14

“If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence, if there is blight, mildew, locust or caterpillar; if their enemy besieges them in the land of their cities; whatever plague, whatever sickness there is; whatever prayer and supplication is made by any man, or by all your people Israel, who shall each know the plague of his own heart, and spread out his hands toward this house,  then hear in heaven, your dwelling place, and forgive, and act, and give to every man according to all his ways, whose heart you know (for you, even you only, know the hearts of all the children of men); that they may fear you all the days that they live in the land which you gave to our fathers.  I Kings 8:37-40

Prayer

Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so Yahweh, the God of Armies, will be with you, as you say.  Hate evil, love good, and establish justice in the courts. It may be that Yahweh, the God of Armies, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.” Amos 5:14,15

“Yet even now,” says Yahweh, “turn to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.” Tear your heart, and not your garments, and turn to Yahweh, your God; for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and relents from sending calamity. Who knows? He may turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind him, even a meal offering and a drink offering to Yahweh, your God. Joel 2:12-14

In that day I will raise up the tent of David who is fallen,… Amos 9:11

Yahweh said to me, “Amos, what do you see?” I said, “A plumb line.” Then the Lord said, “Behold, I will set a plumb line in the middle of my people Israel. I will not again pass by them any more. Amos 7:8  A reed like a rod was given to me. Someone said, “Rise, and measure God’s temple, and the altar, and those who worship in it. Revelation 11:1

“For, behold, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all the nations, as grain is sifted in a sieve, yet not the least kernel will fall on the earth. Amos 9:9

I will give thanks to Yahweh with my whole heart. I will tell of all your marvelous works.  I will be glad and rejoice in you. I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.  When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish in your presence.   For you have maintained my just cause. You sit on the throne judging righteously.   You have rebuked the nations. You have destroyed the wicked. You have blotted out their name forever and ever.  The enemy is overtaken by endless ruin. The very memory of the cities which you have overthrown has perished.  But Yahweh reigns forever. He has prepared his throne for judgment.   He will judge the world in righteousness. He will administer judgment to the peoples in uprightness.  Yahweh will also be a high tower for the oppressed; a high tower in times of trouble.   Those who know your name will put their trust in you, for you, Yahweh, have not forsaken those who seek you.   Sing praises to Yahweh, who dwells in Zion, and declare among the people what he has done.  For he who avenges blood remembers them. He doesn’t forget the cry of the afflicted.  Have mercy on me, Yahweh. See my affliction by those who hate me, and lift me up from the gates of death; that I may show all of your praise. In the gates of the daughter of Zion, I will rejoice in your salvation.  The nations have sunk down in the pit that they made. In the net which they hid, their own foot is taken.  Yahweh has made himself known. He has executed judgment. The wicked is snared by the work of his own hands. Meditation. Selah.  The wicked shall be turned back to Sheol, even all the nations that forget God.  For the needy shall not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the poor perish forever.  Arise, Yahweh! Don’t let man prevail. Let the nations be judged in your sight.   Put them in fear, Yahweh. Let the nations know that they are only men. Selah. Psalm 9

…He will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb.   The smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever. Revelation 14:10b-11a

…saying, “Don’t harm the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, until we have sealed the bondservants of our God on their foreheads!” Revelation 7:3 They have tails like those of scorpions, and stings. In their tails they have power to harm men for five months. Revelation 9:10 …

He who overcomes won’t be harmed by the second death. Revelation 2:11b

The sixth angel sounded. I heard a voice from the horns of the golden altar which is before God, saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Free the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates!”   The four angels were freed who had been prepared for that hour and day and month and year, so that they might kill one third of mankind.   The number of the armies of the horsemen was two hundred million. I heard the number of them.  Thus I saw the horses in the vision, and those who sat on them, having breastplates of fiery red, hyacinth blue, and sulfur yellow; and the horses’ heads resembled lions’ heads. Out of their mouths proceed fire, smoke, and sulfur.  By these three plagues were one third of mankind killed: by the fire, the smoke, and the sulfur, which proceeded out of their mouths.  For the power of the horses is in their mouths, and in their tails. For their tails are like serpents, and have heads, and with them they harm.  The rest of mankind, who were not killed with these plagues, didn’t repent of the works of their hands, that they wouldn’t worship demons, and the idols of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of wood; which can’t see, hear, or walk.  They didn’t repent of their murders, their sorceries, their sexual immorality, or their thefts.

DIDN'T REPENT

But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God, and I don’t desire that you would have fellowship with demons. You can’t both drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You can’t both partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons. I Corinthians 10:20,21

They moved him to jealousy with strange gods. They provoked him to anger with abominations.  They sacrificed to demons, not God, to gods that they didn’t know, to new gods that came up recently, which your fathers didn’t dread.  Of the Rock who became your father, you are unmindful, and have forgotten God who gave you birth.  Deuteronomy 32:16-18

They worshiped the dragon, because he gave his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”  Revelation 13:4

In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, nor will its sovereignty be left to another people; but it will break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it will stand forever.  Because you saw that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God has made known to the king what will happen hereafter. The dream is certain, and its interpretation sure.”  Daniel 2:44,45

….They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone….. TEKEL: you are weighed in the balances, and are found wanting.

…Until I entered God’s sanctuary, and considered their latter end. Psalm 73:17

They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. Viper’s poison is under their lips. Selah. …The proud have hidden a snare for me, they have spread the cords of a net by the path. They have set traps for me. Selah. Psalms 140:3,5

“Their throat is an open tomb. With their tongues they have used deceit.”“The poison of vipers is under their lips;”  “whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.”  “Their feet are swift to shed blood.   Destruction and misery are in their ways.  The way of peace, they haven’t known.”  Romans 2:13-17

But you have turned away from the path. You have caused many to stumble in the law. You have corrupted the covenant of Levi,” says Yahweh of Armies.

But as for me, in the abundance of your loving kindness I will come into your house. I will bow toward your holy temple in reverence of you.  Lead me, Yahweh, in your righteousness because of my enemies. Make your way straight before my face.  Psalms 5:7,8

O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles. Psalms 43:3

REPENTED LONG AGO

“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.  But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you.   You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades.  Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me. Whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”   The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”   He said to them, “I saw Satan having fallen like lightning from heaven.   Behold, I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will in any way hurt you. Nevertheless, don’t rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”  Luke 10:13-20

FRUIT WORTHY OF REPENTANCE

They were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.  But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?   Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance! Don’t think to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.  “Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.  I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.  His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.” Matthew 3:6-12

“Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me; and the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, behold, he comes!” says Yahweh of Armies.  “But who can endure the day of his coming? And who will stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire, and like launderers’ soap; and he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi, and refine them as gold and silver; and they shall offer to Yahweh offerings in righteousness.  Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasant to Yahweh, as in the days of old, and as in ancient years.  I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and don’t fear me,” says Yahweh of Armies.  Malachi 3:1-5

…They have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.   Here is the perseverance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.”   I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write, ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors; for their works follow with them.” Revelation 14:11b-13

They sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God, the Almighty! Righteous and true are your ways, you King of the nations.  Who wouldn’t fear you, Lord, and glorify your name? For you only are holy. For all the nations will come and worship before you. For your righteous acts have been revealed.”   After these things I looked, and the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened. Revelation 15:3-5

The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who sits on the throne, saying, “Amen! Hallelujah!”   Revelation 19:4

…keeping loving kindness for thousands, forgiving iniquity and disobedience and sin; and who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the children’s children, on the third and on the fourth generation.”   Moses hurried and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped.  Exodus 34:7, 8

… to finish disobedience [transgression], and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity,…  Daniel 9:24

After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light and be satisfied. My righteous servant will justify many by the knowledge of himself; and he will bear their iniquities.   Therefore I will give him a portion with the great, and he will divide the plunder with the strong; because he poured out his soul to death, and was counted with the transgressors; yet he bore the sins of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.  Isaiah 53:11,12

Who is a God like you, who pardons iniquity, and passes over the disobedience of the remnant of his heritage? He doesn’t retain his anger forever, because he delights in loving kindness.  He will again have compassion on us. He will tread our iniquities under foot; and you will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.  You will give truth to Jacob, and mercy to Abraham, as you have sworn to our fathers from the days of old.  Micah 7:18-20

“For, behold, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all the nations, as grain is sifted in a sieve, yet not the least kernel will fall on the earth. Amos 9:9

And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD. Isaiah 59:20
